Our Poor Yard!!!

In a matter of TWO DAYS our backyard went from wonderful to DEAD! Of all the people to have a dead backyard...we work in it, fertilize it, love it...and it DIES! Now (whatever it is) is moving up the side yard to the front. NNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Maxey tried burning it off, but the smoke was really bad.

The dove family living in the basket on our patio freaked out!!
Plus, I was afraid the fire department would be called by some of our neighbors.

THERE WAS A LOT OF SMOKE!

So we went to Lowe's and bought a thatching blade. Maybe after it's thatched, we can burn it without so much attention-getting smoke.

The yard is a total loss!! I hope we can keep whatever is killing it  from taking the rest of our lot.

What did you say?

I called Maile one morning and asked her "What are you doing?"
"I'm just stripping off the mattresses," she replied.
I thought that was strange wording, but I replied, "Oh, I'm putting sheets on our beds while you're taking all of yours off."

Long pause...

Then she said, "Huh?"

So I repeated what she had said and what I had said.

"Mom, I said I was 'shipping off the Matheses' (they had been babysitting the Mathes' children all morning and had just had them picked up by the parents).

GOOD GRIEF!

We Spend a LOT of Time on Our Patio...

Maxey and I have talked for the past three years or so about extending the covering over our patio. It's a hard decision.

We spend a lot of time on our patio. We have coffee out there every morning, eat most of our meals there, visit with friends, and just chill. I love to hold Precious and just rock in my rocking chair watching the clouds float by. It's wonderful to sit and watch it rain!

Another thing to consider is that we get a great breeze through our opened windows and opened doors. Will the extended cover affect the breeze? Will it make the existing part of the patio dark and stuffy? Will it take away our enjoyment of one of the most used parts of our home?

I wish we knew.

So...Maxey put up a temporary cover this morning stretching a tarp across the proposed location of the new extension. I don't know if he's reached his decision yet or not. However, we're supposed to talk next week to the gentleman who will do the construction. His price quote may make the decision for us.
